DEFINITION OF THE TERMS

Shemale, Transexual, Transgender and More

Dear Friend, 

There is usually a lot of confusion about what certain words and phrases mean.  I hope this clears things up a bit for you.

• Transgendered or TG -

The words transgender (tg) refer to people who are involved in activities which cross normally accepted social boundaries of gender behavior. This covers a wide variety of behaviors from something as simple as a difference in how they think to people using dress and makeup to look like a different gener ...to people physically altering their body with surgery and hormones !

All other groups listed below are classed as Transgendered

• Transexual (transsexual) or TS -

A Transexual (TS) is someone who views themselves as being of the opposite sex to the physical body the were born in. They could have a male body with a female mind, this is called Male to Female Transexual (often the abbreviations MtF or MtoF are used).

These are the 'ladies' who are most likely to be living as a woman full time and go through with hormones and surgery to become more feminine and indistinguishable from other women.

The term pre-op transexual refers to a transexual who has still got their male equipment while post-op transexual is a transexual who has gone through full surgery to get rid of their male equipment (and usually have female equipment surgically made in its place).

• Shemales -

This is a term that originated from the porn industry and means a 'transexual'  who takes hormones and may undergo feminising surgery but chooses to keep their male genitalia.

Similar names include Chick with a Dick and Ladyboy.

• LadyBoy -

Ladyboy is a translation of the Thai word Kathoey.  The Thai people have a history of people of the third gender in their society and use the word 'Kathoey' to describe them.

 

• Cross Dresser or CD

Whilst most Transgendered groups could be considered as a form of cross dressing, within the TG community Cross Dressing is often seen as something more specific; it's when dressing is done for sexual pleasure.

It often centers on wearing more intimate apparel such as lingerie or underwear, as well as fetish wear like PVC or leather.

There can be a huge gulf in outlook between a Transvestite and a Cross Dresser since the Cross Dresser is motivated by sex, whilst the transvestite is motivated by the need for expression. Therefore Cross Dressers may not feel the need to look convincing or act in anyway like a female would.

 

• Transvestite

A transvestite is a person who chooses to outwardly express their inner feelings through their appearance. They could be male or female yet have the desire to show their feminine or masculine nature through dress.

This is usually not sexual and many transvestites are also hetero.
